The 2014 Whale season is hot ! An average of 4 Whales in every daily Whale watch Combo tour since July 15th.

There are two whale-watching seasons in Costa Rica which. Humpback Whales come to the area of Cost Rica twice a year to an area known as the "Whales Tail" near Uvita, Costa Rica.

Humpback whales from travel down from the Arctic in December to April from the northern hemisphere, while those from the southern hemisphere can start to be seen in the first weeks of July to late October. Costa Rica offers the longest humpback whale watching season in the world.

Humpbacks migrate from Antarctica to Costa Rica from about August to October and during the winter in the Arctic, their cousins migrate from the far north to Costa Rica for romance and baby-making from approximately late December to April.

They come to an area in the Pacific ocean from Playa Dominical down to the Panamanian border which is known as ”The Costa Rican Thermal Convection Dome”, which is shallow layer of warm water that lies on top of low-oxygen, cold water, which then creates the perfect ecosystem where marine life thrives.

Whales Tail Area

This southern area of Costa Rica from Dominical south to Uvita and the town of Ojochal is known as the Whales Tail Area.
